Tendai in Hampshire

The HQ of the UK Tendai Sangha is located in Hythe, Hampshire. This tiny, humble, purpose built temple is located in the private garden of Rev Seishin, and was given the name Shikan-Do 止観堂 by Ven Shoshin Ichishima. If you’d like to arrange a visit or come along to one of our meetings please get in contact.

We can also offer free one-to-one or small group meditation instruction, wedding blessings, funeral services, memorials and baby naming ceremonies.

For information on up-coming events, please see our events page.

Shikan-Do 止観堂 means ‘Hall of Shamatha & Vipashyana meditation’. Shikan is the main meditation practice of Tendai Buddhism, and is based on the extensive writings of Zhiyi and the numerous Agama and Mahayana Sutras.

We do not charge for our activities, so to help support us and the Temple, please click the link below to donate. Thank you!
